The Girls Golf Program, underwritten by the Michigan Women's Golf Association (MWGA) for over 15 years and a chapter of the national LPGA*USGA Girls Golf Program, offers girls from underserved Detroit communities a chance to learn about golf, including lessons for play and life. The goal is to inspire and transform their lives through the game. Beginner instruction is provided by our LPGA teaching pro, Debbie Williams, at Rouge Park Driving Range & Golf Course and by PGA pro, Teri Ryan, at the City of Southfield courses.
Chris Whitten, executive director of the Golf Association of Michigan (GAM), is especially happy for the MWGA because of its substantial impact on children in the Detroit area. The program has been named the winner of the first GAM Champion of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award. Over 300 junior girls have participated, and several golfers have gone on to play high school and college scholarship golf.
Martha MacIntosh was a longtime advocate and volunteer of the program, and she had selected Girls Golf to receive donations in her memory. Through Legacy on the Links: The Martha MacIntosh Memorial Tournament, her passion will continue to support the cause for years to come.
